Refuse & Recycling Guide & Regulations

  • On collection days, all garbage and recyclables must be at the pickup point by 8:00 a.m.
  • Garbage pickup is on Tuesdays & Fridays depending on area. Recycling pickup is on Wednesdays.
  • Only 2 garbage bags are allowed per home on garbage day, no cardboard is accepted. Stickers can be obtained at the Town Office for excess bags of garbage for a fee of $1.00 each.
  • Unlimited curbside recycling pickup is now available on a weekly basis every Wednesday.
  • Recycling must be in a clear plastic bag. Paper products in one bag and all other items in another bag is preferable.
  • Should garbage day or recycling day fall on a holiday, the pickup will usually be the day following the holiday.
  • Any grass clippings must be in a paper yard bag and can be placed out on Wednesdays with your recycling. Recycling will be picked up first. Public Works will pick up grass clippings after the recyclables have been picked up.

Recycling Saves Resources

  • Newspapers and flyers (combined) - bundle or bag
  • Magazines, catalogues, calendars
  • White office paper, computer paper
  • Phone books
  • Boxboard (cereal, cracker, laundry soap boxes, greeting cards) - remove wax liners or plastic handles - bundle or bag
  • #1 plastic (pop, juice, water) - look for a recycling symbol on the bottom with a #1 inside
  • #2 plastic (vinegar, milk jugs, ice cream pails, javex, soap, etc.) - look for recycling symbol #2 inside
  • Tin/steel cans - rinse and remove labels
  • gable-top milk / juice cartons - rinse well (no tetra pack juice boxes with aluminum linings)
  • Glass food / beverage containers / liquor glass
  • Corrugated cardboard - bundle, box or bag
  • All recycling can go in clear plastic bags or blue box
  • Paint cans, oil containers and used oil should be taken to RM landfill
  • Fluorescent bulbs can be taken to Rona

General Recycling Rules

  • If it can be squashed or flattened, do so
  • No lids or caps
  • No food residue
  • Keep paper and cardboard materials dry
  • Rinse milk jugs and cartons thoroughly
  • For business that shred - keep shredded carbon, paper file folders and plastic transparencies separate from shredded office paper
  • No Styrofoam
  • Cell Phones (and their batteries) - regardless of size, make, model or age.

Electronic Waste Curb-Side Pick-up Procedures

The Town of Lac du Bonnet offers a curb-side pick-up of electronic waste to be collected on regular scheduled garbage pick-up dates. Please ensure that the electronic waste is put at the curb by 8:00 a.m. and has the required sticker attached in a visible area.Cost for stickers to be placed on items is $2.00 and can be picked up at the Town Office at 84 Second Street. Items that will be considered electronic waste are as follows:

  • Computer Cables with or without connectors
  • Computer Cards such as sound, video, network, modems and controllers
  • Circuit Boards from computers, printers, fax and scanners
  • Internal or External CD-ROM’s, DVD $ CD-ROM burners
  • Electronic Typewriters
  • Fax Machines

Please note these need to be dropped off separately at the environmental office recycling depot.

Chipping Policy - May to September

Any Ratepayers/Residents may drop off their yard waste (branches, leaves and grass clippings) at the old Lagoon Site off Provincial Road 502 adjacent to the Arseniuk Wild Rice Plant.

Saturdays 8:00 am - 12:00 noon
Mondays 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm
Closed for all statutory holidays that fall on a Monday.

Landfill Site

The Town of Lac du Bonnet utilizes the Local Government District of Pinawa landfill site located off Provincial Road 520.

Landfill Summer Hours - May to October

  • Tuesday 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm
  • Thursday 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm
  • Saturday 8:00 am to 1:00 pm
  • Sunday 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm
  • Landfill Winter Hours - November - April

  • Tuesday 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm
  • Saturday 8:00 am to 1:00 pm

During these open hours any resident of the Town of Lac du Bonnet may deposit garbage simply by presenting your Town authorization card which is available through the Town Office

Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners must be tagged "Freon Free" or "CFC Free". Any appliance without this tag will be charged a $25.00 tipping fee to cover the cost of drainage. If your appliance has been drained by a qualified technician, the tipping fee will not apply.

Demolition & Construction Refuse

IMPORTANT - Pre-approval authorization required for the disposal of construction and demolition materials required. Including roofing, shingles, construction debris, cement (forms below).

No Town of Lac du Bonnet resident or contractor thereof is allowed to enter or use the landfill site except during open hours unless approved and arranged with the LGD of Pinawa and a payment schedule is arranged with them at 753-5106 prior to use.
